Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017, and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
